Mortal Corals, Featuring Brad Linsley - Center for Climate and Life

Research by Brad Linsley, a Center for Climate and Life-funded researcher, is the subject of a Reuters interactive on how corals are used to help predict future climate trends.

Linsley, a paleoclimate scientist at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, studies environmental records derived from corals to shine a light on issues like the rate of surface ocean warming and ocean acidification.

Through the Center’s partnership with World Surf League PURE, Linsley received funding to study coral bleaching in Tonga and Fiji. This work led to a May 2019 Nature Communications study that found reef-building corals face an uncertain future as the oceans absorb more carbon dioxide.

Explore the Reuters piece, then read more about how Linsley reconstructs past climate using corals and sediments.
