  • Billy is an associate research professor at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

    His research focuses on understanding global climate change, including current anthropogenic driven changes and past changes to the Earth System. He investigates the natural modes and underlying forcing mechanisms of past climate variability, with the goal of developing a better understanding of how the earth system responds to natural and human-induced perturbations.

  • Suzana is the Marie Tharp Research Professor at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. 

    She studies various aspects of climate variability and climate change, in particular tropical cyclones (hurricanes) and their relationship with the climate. Recently, Camargo was one of the co-leaders of the US CLIVAR Hurricane Working Group. She has been at Lamont campus since 1999, working first at the International Research Institute for Climate and Society before becoming part of Lamont's Ocean and Climate Physics Division in 2007.

  • Susan is the Corporate Engagement Manager at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

  • Sonya is a professor at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

    As a microbial oceanographer, Sonya leverages molecular tools to study aquatic microbes and their role in shaping ecosystem structure, function, and biogeochemistry. She was part of a team of scientists that sequenced the first harmful algal genome sequence from a species that causes the so-called “brown tides” in Long Island Sound.   

  • Ryan is an assistant professor at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

    A physical oceanographer, his primary research interests are the role of ocean circulation, particularly the Southern Ocean, in the climate system; dynamics of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current and its overturning circulation, mixing and transport by ocean eddies. 

  • Richard is a professor at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

    He studies climate variability and change on timescales of seasons to millennia and in particular the causes of multiyear droughts around the world and how climate change will impact global hydroclimate. He uses numerical models, observations, and proxy reconstructions of past climates to understand the physical mechanisms responsible for climate variability and change on seasonal to glacial-interglacial timescales. 

    Recent work has focused on the mechanisms of persistent North American drought and its relation to tropical Pacific and tropical Atlantic Ocean temperature variations.

     

  • Rebecca is the Webmaster for the Center for Climate and Life.

  • Meghan is the Senior Director of Advancement for Columbia University's Earth Institute and Lamont- Doherty Earth Observatory.

  • Maureen is director of the Climate and Life Initiative and interim director of Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

    A paleoclimatologist and marine geologist, she has done pioneering work on ice ages, the geologic temperature record, and climate, examining and theorizing about global cooling and warming and transitions in ice age cycles. 

    She is a fellow of the American Geophysical Union and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In 2014 she became the first woman to win the Wollaston Medal for geology. In 2016 she was elected a member of the National Academy of Sciences.

  • Hugh is a professor at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

    He is a biological oceanographer and the lead principal investigator of the Palmer Antarctica Long Term Ecological Research Project, where he investigates the responses of the marine ecosystem to rapid climate warming.

  • Bärbel is a professor at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

    Her research focuses on reconstructing past changes in seawater carbonate chemistry, atmospheric carbon dioxide, and global climate; the time scales covered by her group currently range from Pleistocene glacial cycles to Paleocene hyperthermals.

    One of the main tools in this work is the boron isotope proxy for past seawater pH, but her research group also validates and applies a range of other proxies for reconstructing past environmental conditions.
