Climate and Life Fellows

Climate and Life Fellows

The Climate and Life Fellows Program frees Columbia University scientists to think deeply and creatively about how they can contribute knowledge for the public good.

The Fellows Program accelerates the knowledge needed to understand how changes in climate and life systems impact the essentials of human sustainability. We typically fund several Climate and Life Fellows each year to lead urgent research projects on topics central to our mission.

Funds are awarded through competitions that have a formal invitation and review process. Fellows are selected competitively and receive funding at the level of one-third their annual salary for up to three years, with additional funding for research travel and fieldwork.

Research staff from the following Columbia centers and institutes are eligible for the Fellows Program:

  • Center for International Earth Science Information Network
  • International Research Institute for Climate and Society
  • Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory
  • NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies
